PAUL HENRY AFAGBEGEE
P H Afagbegee was born in on Friday, 31stDecember 1915 to Madam Catherine Saliha and Mr Henry Baumann.Denu is a small in the Volta Region of Ghana near Aflao border Togo,When the mother was in labour, Catherine was rushed to the nearest hospital in Lome in the Republic of Togo, unfortunately as soon as the child Paul was born the mother passed away.
He and his family moved to the interior part of Ghana and settled for good, He attended Mfantsipim secondary school but fortunately or unfortunately his father died when he was in form 5 about to take his final exams and because of financial situation he was compelled to withdraw from school. And like the proverbial saying that “necessity is the mother of invention”, his creative and innovative mind reel it head out, he quickly turned one of his studies in school into a career (photography), and career that he developed so well that it made him self-sufficient and built a successful family life. As a young man with lots of exuberant energy he went to Togo with the view of making life there initially, he joined the Gilchris Olympio political party for some time but he soon lost interest in the politics there and returned back to Ghana. He built his photography business from home and managed to get the trust and attention of the public in Kumasi.
Paul Afagbegee (Papa) got married to miss Innocentia Korkor Broohm in Lome, Togo.
The marriage was blessed with nine children, but as the destiny of men is hidden Innocentia died in 1974. The second marriage to Miss Rose Kohoe took place in 1981 with the birth of two children. Among the ten children are Diplomats, Clergy, businessmen and women and sailors
He was a brave gentleman who loves to share his resources with others, He was a Roman catholic by religion and served as a catechist for a long time and he helped many people to find comfort and hope in their life, he was a man ready to listen to you at any time. In his private life he was a Christian Mystic and belonged to an international association of Christian Mystics and this he said gave him insight to be his brother’s keeper. He was a giant in metaphysics and one of the leaders in that society. He was also a marriage counselor, a pursuit which he did voluntarily and helped many to understand marriage and to patch up their marriage. It is said that he helped women during child bearing, when there are complications he will use herbs and meditation. A man who could enchant a herb or water to restore peace and harmony to those who came to him for help. He was full of smiles and his philosophy was that there is no need to retaliate or revenge when provoked, learn to forgive and always reconcile with your enemies, in that case you free your mind of negativities.
He lived to a ripe old age of 91 years and even when he was finally pronounced dead the close family members around couldn’t belief that the man everyone calls “Papa” is actually dead. He died at the Komfo Anokye Hospital on Saturday 12thJanuary 2009 at 3:00am
